Otak-Otak (Indonesian Fish Cake with Spicy Peanut Sauce)

Otak-Otak is one of the famous snack in Indonesia which often serve with spicy peanut sauce.
My husband and my oldest son loves this snack so much. So every time they saw a stall sell it, they will "always" craving and end up buying. Since that time, I learn to make this snack at home.

The original version of otak-otak is warp in banana leaves and grilled and serving with a spicy peanut sauce which stand up the taste of this fish cake.
I remember taking a picture of otak-otak stall at one of the event in Jakarta in a few months ago. It's the second time I attending this event - Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival - which is held 1 a year in one of the mall in Jakarta.
You can find most of Indonesian Food and culinary at the event, just "guard" your camera carefully when you have a chance to attend the event next year because the event is so crowded...  *Sigh*

Healthier Fish Chowder

I think maybe winter is start to come on the other side of the world which have 4 season while raining is "visiting" most of the city in Indonesia now.
As I ever said before that I love autumn and rainy season more than summer, but as all of you know when the rainy or snow start to visiting us almost every day, there's a few "uncomfortable" situation we have to face.
I will not discussing about the flood in a few city and region which start to happen, or even snowstorm on other country. It just a simple but "dangerous" situation we have to face...

But before that...
Do I ever tell you that I plan a few veggie and even fruit at my backyard?

Flaxseed Brownie

I have to admit... but,
Sttt!!!!
Don't tell anyone...
Or they will come to my house every breakfast!

I'm crazy for chocolate and brownies!! At breakfast!

Well everyone loves chocolate & brownies... but,
I have to have any of that chocolately "everytime" I finish my meal... especially at breakfast!
A dessert breakfast!

So, the first thing I looking for in the morning after I have my hot morning lemon water is... a brownies or a chocolate cookies... or any cookies with chocolate on the label.
Sometimes, I will make a bread or  pancake for breakfast, but still... I will always looking for anything chocolately after that.
Do I have a sweet tooth?
I'll said that I'm not a sweet tooth person because the "sensasion" that I loves in the chocolate is the bitter one... dark chocolate?
Yes Please! :D

Prawn Balado - Indonesian Spicy Fried Prawn

On my last post, I post about Indonesian traditional sambal (chili sauce), Balado
Balado is best known chili sauce that the recipe is past down from generation to generation in Indonesia. And today I want to share with you one more Indonesian traditional dish which made with the balado sauce, called Prawn Balado.

In Indonesia, most of the people loves to eat spicy food. I think maybe 80% of the people, even my son which is 11yr old loves this dish. I use red hot chili paper that less spicy for my balado sauce and deseed the chili so the sauce is not too hot. If you can't tolerate spicy too much then you can add more the tomato, add more sugar, less the chili and skip of the chili padi. Or maybe you can use half of the balado sauce recipe for one serving of dish, just adjust to your palate :)
